{Fabric Friday} custom colors...

One of my favorite things about making mobiles & nursery decor items, is that people often send me pictures of their nurseries in various stages of their development - both while I am creating a mobile for them or once the mobile is in their room. I can't tell you how many times people have told me that they have created their entire nursery around one of the mobiles that I made. It's  compliment that I don't take lightly as I know how incredibly special & personal  decorating  a nursery for your child is.

Sometimes I get requests for mobiles with custom colors. I'm always willing to do that if I have the fabrics. I got such a request yesterday for a Flights of Fancy Mobile in light pink, bright pink, and b&w as the main colors. As I was pulling together stacks of fabrics in those colors and data to send this customer, I thought it would make a nice Fabric Friday post. I see this mobile being a lot like the B&W mobile that was Sayer's first mobile (& still in his room- but the Crawling Critters is now over his bed). I would just incorporate some of the fabrics in the stacks pictured. It was fun to think about a different color scheme- particularly this one. When I first started making mobiles & plush for klt:works, I really stuck to gender neutral colors but over the years, the requests for pink have just skyrocketed. So, I do happen to have a nice little selection of pinks that I have acquired. In these stacks you will find some: P&B textiles, Robert Kaufman organics, Westminster Fibers, Michael Miller, Free Spirit, Joel Dewberry, Kai Fabrics, Monaluna Kaufman, and various wool blends & wool felts. Happy Fabric Friday! What four colors are dominant in your room or your child's room?

{Play} Creative Video Shortlist...

This is so cool! For those of us that love artistic videos, this is a great thing to know about.  The Guggenheim Museum selected 25 videos from 23,000 YouTube video submissions for YouTube Play. A Biennial of Creative Video shortlist was announced tonight during a special event at the Guggenheim Museum.The videos can all be watched at the museum through October 25th. But if you are like me, and not able to watch them at the museum, they are all here on YouTube! Oh happy day- what an awesome collaboration!

Sweet...

I wanted to share a sweet little gift I just received tonight. Chris made me this bouquet of hand picked flowers- in vase he made with a can, some wire, & snippets from the San Francisco Gazette circa 1932. He makes these bouquets at hutch studio during the day, but made mine especially for me (the other ones don't have the vintage newspaper). I'm still feeling less than stellar these days - not able to kick this nasty cold. So, a gesture like this just warmed me right up & made me smile. I love these simple, handmade treasures that he makes & feel pretty darn lucky...

{Real Life}

Being a mom to a toddler, who works from home, is a nutty adventure. Some days make more sense than others. I seriously think that there is more creativity that is exhibited from me in a day from my "mommy" duties than for klt:works lately. Nap time is golden in this venture. It's when I get things done (or sometimes I just drool -staring blankly at the computer screen). Regardless, it's needed by both of us in this house. Sayer is going through this little stage these days- he knows he has the power to get out of bed & he is abusing this power greatly! Today was seriously silly. In attempt to stall, he told me he wanted to take pictures with mommy. Well, I bit- his plan worked. I've found that sometimes all it takes is a mini photo shoot for him to settle down and sleep. Besides, I didn't think it wouldn't hurt to get something accomplished for the biz too. So, I gathered up some props, tees, & the camera and we headed off....

I never have to worry - Sayer lets me know when he is done (wink). While that isn't a yawn you see,  he did take a nap right after this photo shoot. It lasted long enough for me to edit some photos and write this. So, all is not lost in the world of klt:works production. I did get something done this afternoon. I now have some new photos of the owl tee that I didn't have before & my little model is honing his skills. If I am lucky, I will be able to upload some photos later today. Until then, it is time to go to the park.....

*Also, if anyone that is reading this has some suggestions as to how to keep an adventurous toddler in bed at night, I am open (& grateful)  for suggestions. Thanks!

{Music Monday} Moody October...

 {image via here}

There is something about October that just feels a bit more moody & dark to me than other months. Between the preparation for Halloween & the weather shift, it has sort of a Twin Peaks vibe. I feel like the music that I am drawn to is a little different in the Fall as well.

This Bat for Lashes video completely feels like October to me. I saw it for the first time last year around Halloween and it's back on my radar again. When I was reading about Natasha Kahn, I learned that she is also a visual artist. The artwork above is made by her. She actually started writing her first album for Bat for Lashes when she was a nursery school teacher, which I found really intriguing. Happy Music Monday! What music feels like October to you?
