{Fabric Friday} Vintage Marimekko...

It's no secret that I have a major fondness for Marimekko textiles. I've written about it many times. Well, about a week ago I bought a bunch of vintage Marimekko fabric via this Etsy Shop that made me giddy with excitement. I carried this stack around with me for days, sort of fearful to cut into it. After all, I bought it to use. But then had second thoughts when I saw how beautiful it was. My husband reminded me that fabric is fabric & it's meant to be used and transformed. If you are a KLT FB "liker" you have already seen this top stack of Marimekko goodness. Actually- the piece of fabric in the middle isn't Marimekko- it's a gorgeous Finnish, vintage textile that I liked too.  But the rest of these pictures will be new for you.

So I did it - I cut into the fabric this week!  My slugs just called out to these fabrics (or vice versa) - it was what I originally had in my mind to make when I saw first saw the vibrant textiles. I love playing with the bold shapes, patterns, & colors for the slug bellies. There will never be 2 exactly that same- which I really enjoy. These little guys are truly special & the colors are so darn happy!

These vintage Marimekko slugs will be slowly inching their way into the KLT Etsy Shop throughout the next few days. Don't worry you die hard fabric collectors, I won't use all of the fabric, I have saved a bit for safe keeping. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what I will make from this gorgeous stack. Oh, and don't forget that klt:friends get a nice discount code to use for weekend. Happy Fabric Friday!

Thankful...

While it's not the most original statement to say that I'm thankful for family, it is number one on my very long list. As a mom, I think I see family a little differently than I used to. I now see these people through  Sayers eyes, which is quite touching really. Here is a glimpse of some of our family through his eyes...

Yep, I have a lot to be thankful for this year.  Sayer is a lucky kid to know that people from coast to coast are interested in everything he does. That makes me a very happy mom.  We are having my parents over for dinner tonight (well, in actually 1 hour) & we will see Brian & Katie tomorrow. We all live in the same state and get to see each other regularly. So this is also a Thanksgiving wish to Jennifer (& the rest of the family) & Ken who are in Boston right now -most likely already eating pie. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Scurrying around today getting ready for tomorrow. If those turkeys had a clue... they would be bustling around as fast as I am. However, last year I saw these guys strolling down the streets of La Conner on Thanksgiving Day without  a care in the world.  Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

{stop motion} animation in white...

It snowed today here in the northwest and it's very cold and white. It's a perfect sort of night to curl up with some hot chocolate and catch up with some of my favorite blogs. When visiting Paper Forest, I found this beautiful stop motion video from french animation artists Camille Baladi & Arnaud Roi. You know how I love stop motion & paper cut art - so I was excited to have stumbled on this video. It's so cool... and very white. Quite fitting for a day like today, don't you think?

{Music Monday} winter studio music...

Music is always playing in my studio - & generally throughout the house too. While I do have a fairly large & diverse collection of music, I find that I've been leaning pretty heavily towards Pandora radio these days- just so I don't get in a music rut. I keep little pieces of scrap paper and a pen next to where I work so I can jot down songs & artists that I like to later look up when I have the time. The big trick I find, is reading my writing when I actually do go to look up these musicians. I lucked out this weekend though, I stumbled on Portland, OR artist , Laura Gibson . She reminds me a little of  Jolie Holland & Madeleine Peyroux. Have a listen...

I'm really drawn to her sensibility & find her music a nice match for these cold, winter days in the studio. There is just something about the idea of a musician performing in a bookstore that really appeals to me. If you enjoyed her music, you can listen to her Tiny Desk Concert at NPR music here. Happy Music Monday

{Everyday Inspiration} four fun finds # 3

In keeping with the tradition that I started 3 weeks ago, here are four fun finds that made me smile last week. This post could actually be considered, four funky finds...

1. This "Circus"  print by Judy Kaufmann is one of the MANY prints in her Etsy gallery that is a  favorite of mine- it was honestly hard to choose just one.

2. How adorable is this "Splish Splash" play kitchen made out of olive tins? I love the concept behind rafinesse & tristesse - pretty darn genius.

3. I've had my eye on this block set from Fidoodle for some time now. The illustrated characters heads & bodies can be mixed & matched. There are blocks with illustrations of doors, windows, & other essentials for building things as well.

4. Harold (the art doll) has me smitten. Timothy was a close second. My eye has been drawn to Elze's shop a lot since I discovered it. She apparently does custom couples too - which would be very cool...

Hope your having a great weekend! I'm sewing with wool socks & a hat on today. I think I need to find the space heater (which I believe is in Chris' studio).
